Dan Bliss is a performer with a well traveled repertoire of traditional blues, folk and swing tunes. 2017 finds him recording new original songs for a CD due out this summer, his first release in almost ten years.
In September Bliss took 2nd place in the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield KS, his third time making the top three there.
Bliss has appeared three times at the New York State Blues Festival in his hometown of Syracuse NY and has opened for artists such as Marcia Ball, Johnnie Johnson, Henry Townsend, Honeyboy Edwards, Steve James, Nace Brothers, The Waybacks, John McCutcheon and Peter Mulvey.
Bliss has made his home for over 20 years in Kansas City, inspired by the traditions of blues and jazz and the incredible wealth of local talent. While his focus is solo acoustic performance, he has also played with Kelley Hunt and his own band Bluetonium. These days in addition to solo shows he also plays regular duo gigs with legendary KC guitarist Rod Fleeman.
